I love that nothing goes wasted. It’s one of the surefire ways to answer why bad things happen to good people—-to show that, through trials, we become equipped to help others.

Yes. If had you have not been there first, you will not be able to show another the safest path, or feel true empathy.

Really like the John Irving quote. I was just reflecting on something similar to that earlier today: about how really fiction writers are just people who are intensively observant of their participation in the world.

I think it’s true of writers in general, from novelists to poets and lyricists to editorial writers for newspapers and magazines. We just express our observations in different ways.
