  2. I especially like Joss Whedon’s thought.

    There are people who did, and still do, criticise Tolkien for the humor and jesting of Merry and Pippin during all the struggles they face fighting The War of the Ring, saying such humor is inappropriate in war experiences. But Tolkien had been in the trenches in WWI. He had lost many of his friends and ended up being sent home with what we now call PTSD. He knew the need to “for the love of God, tell a joke.”

  4. I’ve implemented Holly Gerth’s advice in my writing, especially as I finish my memoir. It definitely scares me, but it does seem the scary parts are what speak to others.
