My Favorite Day of the Year!

Happy New Year 2016 Gold Key Card Congratulations

It’s time for my annual “I love New Year’s Day!” post, but those who know me best know my favorite day of the year is the first Monday. That’s the real new year’s day–when the holidays are over and it’s time to knuckle down to the grind. Life resumes, with one huge exception: we have the promise of twelve more months to start over and meet the goals we didn’t meet last year.

I met a lot of my goals from last year–I finished the sequel to Give the Lady a Ride, called The Final Ride, got some clutter cleared and disposed of, lost some weight–the same seven pounds three times (that’s 21 pounds, right?). I spent quality time with Mom and the kids, made sure MSB knew I love him, finished Kay Arthur’s study of Daniel.

My goals are the same for the coming year. Write. Clear the clutter. Lose weight–and keep it off, this time. Maybe join a gym (shudder). Spend lots of time with family and friends. And study the Word. I’ll start getting serious about all this on the first Monday of the year.

I imagine folks think I’m crazy, but there’s something about the new year that seems more magical to me than the supposed “magic” of Christmas. It’s the key to possibilities. It’s an opportunity. It’s a big ol’ “do over,” and I greet it enthusiastically every year. Last year, with all its mistakes and failures, is over, and this year is a clean slate. It’ll probably hold its own mistakes and failures, but I’m ready to grab the key and unlock the possibilities!

So, okay, call me crazy. I love the new year!

I envy your attitude. 🙂 It’s much better to be so positive. I’ve been working on that but a negative outlook is still what my brain defaults to. I hope your Monday is fantastic, Linda!

My fresh start begins after January 3 (my b-day). I love the new year too. So many possibilities.

I definitely don’t think you’re crazy. I can’t put my finger on any particular reason, but I’m feeling really pumped about 2016. Kind of a “gleeful grin and ‘bring it'” attitude. :p Happy New Year, my friend!

  4. Ah yes, a new year. I agree there is something magical about that. Christmas is part of the old year, but New Year’s, that’s different. Well, it’s NEW!

I am with you on the losing the weight. I am stuck seven pounds lighter than I started with in November, but I can’t seem to move the scale down. I lost one pant size, so I guess that helps, but that dang scale! Oh well, I think more exercise is the key. I even read that working standing up for a few hours a day has wonderful benefits, instead of sitting for so many hours like we authors tend to do. With my laptop I do have that option while writing.(And a bar counter at exactly the right height, so no purchases required.) Might try that along with my other exercise.

And as far as your goals, good for you, Linda! Your’re an inspiration. I managed a few myself, but as my dad always told me, “Pretty good, kid, but not as good as….(Pick whatever or whomever). So, I’d try a bit harder. 🙂 Here’s to a wonderful New Year.

    • A neighbor who has been successful dieting reached a plateau not long ago. She said their “coach”–whoever that is–told her and her husband to go one day eating whatever they wanted and as much as they wanted. That would kick-start their system to the idea of dieting again. Not sure how that works, but it did for them. Not long after their splurge day, they lost more weight. They’re both looking great now. My problem is that I allow myself too many splurge days!

Hope we both reach our goals this year, Ceci!
