I am an American, a citizen of the U.S.A. In spite of the bad and because of the good, I will not apologize for my nation, nor will I apologize for being proud of it or respecting its symbols.
I am intolerant.
I am intolerant of those who come to America, but don’t want to be Americans.
I am intolerant of those who consider flag burning a right, but flag flying an affront.
I am intolerant of those who call our enemies freedom fighters while vilifying our heroes.
I am intolerant of those who twist our history to fit their agendas.
I am intolerant of those who sacrifice our ways and our traditions in a foolish fear of causing offense.
And I am intolerant of national leaders who are ashamed of the very nation they were elected to serve.
I don’t understand what’s going on today. When did American pride become a national sin? When did the things we’ve done wrong so outweigh those we did right that we are now required to hang our heads and beg forgiveness?
Too many of our men and women shed their blood on foreign shores defending the defenseless, promoting independence, scrambling to allow fledgling democracies a chance to thrive, for me to deny our exceptionalism.
I will not apologize for my pride in my country.
I will not apologize for my support of all branches of our military.
And I will not apologize for my intolerance of those seeking to destroy America.
This is my country. Land that I love.

Friggin Amen! I’m a strong patriot, with a son in the military and a father retired military, with tours in Viet Nam. I gave 25 years to aiding the country through federal service. My husband was a federal agent for 30 years. I’m a strong Constitution advocate and have not missed an election since I was 18 years old – local, state or federal. While I date myself, I still declare:

I’m certainly proud to be an American, having had an ancestor fight in every war since 1637, but you’re delusional if you thing your bull pucky bears any truth. Liberals love their imperfect America as much as you love the fallacy of your perfect one. The difference is, Liberals see reality and want improvement. After all, what’s the point of complaining about flag burning when the Patriot Act pisses on everything the flag actually means?
Glad I’m not an intolerant American like you. No apologies for that either.

Adding my amen to the list. My father, step-father, two uncles, husband, and son have all served in various wars on various fronts, from Normandie Beach to the Pacific, from Korea to Afghanistan. One uncle lost his life. I have zero tolerance for the naysayers and flag stompers.

I have always loved my country and have never been ashamed of it, although I have felt ashamed of some of my countrymen for the very reasons you state above. I’m the kind of person who cries at patriotic songs and the 4th of July is my favorite holiday – so I guess I’m one of ‘those’ people. So yeah sistah, right on, God Bless you and God Bless America. Great post for this special day in our country.

Thank you, Annie. I cry too–patriotic movies, patriotic songs, patriotism in general, touches me. Yeah, we’ve done some things wrong, but we’re still a great nation, and I have run out of patience with those who are too busy hating us to notice that.

I am PROUD to be an AMERICAN and I’m so proud of our men and women who put their complete lives on hold and go fight for OUR FREEDOM — WHO HAS LOVED OUR COUNTRY ENOUGH TO DIE FOR IT IF NEED BE – I say STAND FOR IT or LEAVE IT! Great post, Linda! My son was in Iraq with the Army National Guard.
No, we aren’t perfect. But we must still have something special when there are still so many people trying to leave their homelands to come here and make this their home. Yay America! 🙂
