Meet Me in St. Louis!

I’ll be packing this weekend. Can’t wait to get to St. Louis! Looking forward to seeing all my friends and the stars in our business. Can’t wait to actually wear my new fall clothes. Even if it’s cooler than usual for September in Texas, it’s not cool enough to warrant long sleeves, much less a sweater.

I hope it’s sunny and pretty while we’re there. I want to see the city in its best possible light. We intend to see as much as we can within walking distance of the hotel. But I’ve learned my lesson to coat myself in sunblock. When I was a kid, back in the ’70s, “laying out” was the thing to do, and though I wasn’t much of a sun worshiper (I burned easily), I joined the ranks trying for that golden tan. The most common suntan lotion was baby oil, so all us oiled up brainless beauties would fry on the outside and roast on the inside. Which, of course, explains the letter I got from my dermatologist yesterday: I have skin cancer. The one place she looked at isn’t the only place on me that looks like that. There are several. My skin seems to be fertile soil to everything but money trees and cash crops. So I reckon I’m in for quite a time with whatever it is they do to put an end to this.

But not now. Right now, I’m planning what to put in the suitcases, worrying about how to get from the airport to the hotel, dreading the hurry-up-and-wait routine characteristic of travel, and looking forward to spending some quality time with MSB before the conference crazies hit. I have to get cat food, warn the neighbors, stop the paper, straighten the house. I can afford to play Scarlett O’Hara for a little while–a few days when the only big C that matters is the Conference.

Looking forward to seeing you in St. Louis!

  1. Wow, Linda, that’s not the kind of letter you ever want to receive, especially when you are about to leave for conference. We’ll have to pray for you while we’re all together! I just looked at the projected weather for next week in S.L. and it’s supposed to be around 80 degrees all four days and sunny. Now to me 80 degrees is not sweater weather. That’s summer weather LOL. But you should have plenty of opportunities to wear those sweaters inside the hotel. All meeting rooms, etc. in hotels are cold year round! LOL. I can’t wait to hug your neck next week!

  2. Aw! I was so looking forward to cooler weather!

I’m going to have to stop getting sick and diseased just before the conference. In 2012, I’d been diagnosed with breast cancer and then had a massive Crohn’s flare. In 2013, I was just getting over the flare, and this year . . . Sigh. This is getting old.

Anxious to see you too–and all the Pennies who show up!
