Hubby Roast

Author Mary Metcalfe shares the secret to her husband’s roast~~~

roast_beefA few years ago, a friend came up for the weekend. We decided to go shopping in the nearby resort town, which has dozens of great boutiques. We left my husband to put on a roast for Sunday dinner. I gave him the instructions: put it in at 3 p.m. and set the temperature for 350. Just to be sure, I called him around three to remind him. He said all was well and the roast was cooking and smelling good.

We gals got back around 5 p.m. and the house did smell wonderful. I organized the potatoes and other veggies and was all set to put them in around the roast when I noticed something… the oven was set to broil!! The roast was only cooking in the top inch or so! We ate dinner quite late that evening.

When I bought my new stove, I bought one that has separate buttons for Bake (temp) and Broil (hi/low only). Hubby has no problems with it now.

My small convection oven is quite another matter though. He’s still not sure how that works. I tease him and tell him to think of it as just another power tool; one that produces good stuff to eat. He’s working on it!

About Mary:

mary-metcalfe“Like thousands of other writers, I always dreamed of writing a book. Back in the late 90′s, I was the technical reviewer for Accounting for Dummies. They asked me for an endorsement and put it, along with my (misspelled) name, on the front cover! I loved going to my local bookstore and seeing my name for a few precious years until the 2nd edition came out.

In 2007, I got an idea for a book. To make a long story very short, I didn’t get much past the first three chapters before saving the file. Like thousands of writers, I didn’t know how to write a book and procrastinated… for years.”

Now she has three out–the “Look to the Future” series, all published in 2012.

  1. Isn’t it interesting how our men can work complex problems with intricate tools while at work, and can’t figure out how to run the oven. Mine consistently forgets to turn the oven on after setting the temperature. Our stove requires a two step function. Yet, he can tell you exactly how many grains of gunpowder go into each caliber of amo. I guess it has to do with interest levels. Great post!
