Deb Raney Wrecked My Bar Graph

You’ve gotta see this:

Deb Raney
This is a picture taken from my stats. See that tall bar on the left? That’s when Deb Raney’s post “The Turkey in the Basement” went up back in October. It reflects that “Best ever 332 views” stat which usurped the 241 views for my 2010 post, “Yeah, I Deserved It.” I’ve been waiting all this time for Deb’s bar to go away so the rest of my chart doesn’t look so pathetic. I tell ya, nothing drives traffic to your site like hosting a celebrity. It was fun to watch.

Ordinarily, my bar chart looks like this:

It seems more encouraging with its peaks and valleys, until you read the actual numbers. Yes, folks, on a good day, I’m lucky to get 58 hits.

You can tell folks know my posting schedule by how deep the valleys are. I’ve thought of writing something every day, but sometimes I’m scrambling to get something up on the day it’s supposed to go up.

Many times I’ve wanted to quit blogging for just that reason. I don’t always know what to write about. My life is mundane, I’m too chicken to post my political thoughts, and variations of my writing tips can be found anywhere on the Web.

So what keeps me going?

This silly blog is my outlet. When things are going great, this is where I announce them. When I need to contact some of my strongest prayer warriors, this is where I go. It’s my journal, my diary, my public window into my private life, where I can receive feedback and encouragement from those who’ve followed me for years and those who I touch just for that moment.

It was fun watching the number of hits rise when Deb was on the site, and I’d love to see the day I get the same numbers just because I’m on the site. According to the experts, that only occurs when you’re consistent in your content. Ha! Like that’ll ever happen!

As I’ve said before, some folks come for my writing tips, my editing posts, my repartees about this crazy industry. Others who have become dear to me keep up with this blog because they care about me and they’ve followed me through my various traumas. Funny thing, I get the most hits when I’ve written something politically or socially controversial, something I rarely do.

Whatever the reason, I’m thankful for you all, and I’ll continue to be tickled pink when that bar encroaches upon the 60 mark.

To blog or not to blog – that certainly IS the question, isn’t it? I’m so glad you do, dear friend – whatever the topic!

Heehee! No, I wish you were. At this hour, my stats show I’ve had 15 visitors, and with Betty below you, I guess that makes you #14–or #2, depending on how many dropped by and didn’t leave a comment. 😀

      Thanks, Lisa!

I love your blog! Aside from just being able to keep up with what’s going on with you, your snarky wit always make me laugh.

Heeheehee! You’re sweet, but you don’t have to do that. The numbers on this blog don’t bother me that much. Like I said, I’d probably keep it as my journal even if I never did get more than 60.

Jesus only had twelve—and even then the one wasn’t loyal—you are in with the best—and encouraging our hearts to do great things. Be encouraged.
