Housecleaning! Woo-hoo!!!

You think I’m insane, don’t you. The ol’ redhead’s finally gone off the deep end. Sniffing ammonia and Clorox bleach. What a sad way to go…

But I tell ya what, if your house were as filthy as mine is after months of only hit-and-miss cleaning, you’d be excited too. Granted, I finished only half the house, but that’s the half folks would see if I ever actually did have visitors. Come now! It won’t stay like this long. I’ll try to get the bathroom clean before you get here–or better yet, stop at the Shell station up the road.

I’m most excited about getting my stove clean. Last week, I managed to get the microwave clean, and through some miracle, it has managed to stay that way, but the stove is a different matter. These days, if I feel strong enough to cook, I cook enough to last us several days–just get it all over with at once. After going on my creative culinary spree, I barely have enough energy to eat what I’ve made, much less clean up the mess I left behind. After a few hours’ rest I get the dishes done, if MSB hasn’t already done them, but cleaning the stove is never on the to-do list.

Until yesterday.

I cleaned it! It sparkles! No grease, no nasty tomato-sauce spits, no spill-overs. It’s clean, I tell you!

Poor MSB. We’re down to the last of the leftovers, but what can I say? My stove is finally clean. I may never cook again.

  1. I totally get you. I actually love housecleaning. It’s finding the time to do it that’s tricky. Bringing order to disaster is always satisfying. Glad to hear you’re starting to feel better!

    Something about that sense of accomplishment. Absolutely relating here.

    So glad you feel like doing all that! I got to vacuum and clean the floor in the bathroom and half the kitchen when my back said, “SIT DOWN, STUPID!” So, I did! {sigh}

    Great post, love the humor. It’s so true that cleaning can be “hit and miss.” With the holidays approaching and the eminent fact that we’ll have visitors, and my schedule filling up, I hired a really great deep cleaning service. After seeing how clean my kitchen is, I totally relate to that “I may never cook again” feeling!
