I’m looking for Friday guest posters for 777 Peppermint Place. Each Friday, the guests will write a 700-word response to “What is the most . . . ?” For July, my question is,
What is the most terrifying passage you’ve ever read?
The idea is to quote a “fair usage” size passage in a book in which an author effectively presented something frightening and discuss the author’s technique that enhanced the “fear factor.” What is it about the passage that gives you the shivers every time you think of it? Word choice? Sentence structure? Pace?
This will be a great opportunity for the mentors/editors among us as well as the writers, since it’s intended as a teaching post. Along with the post, send your links, book covers, bio, and author/professional photo. Also, I’ll need the bibliography info and a link, if available, to the book quoted.
This is such short notice–I hope to have an excellent first post for the series kick-off next Friday! Got something for me?
