BC Journal Day 2–Encouraged

Don’t get used to this. I’m not going to blog every day, and anyone who thinks I will forgets one of my main character traits: I’m inherently lazy. Blogging is too much like work. But until all this breast cancer stuff settles out, you may see me more often.

Yesterday, I woke up kinda down and nervous, evident by my post in which I expressed my fears. I’m amazed how much love and encouragement came my way as a result of that post. What I’m not surprised about is how many people shared their own stories with me. There’s something about being able to say, “I’ve been there, I understand, I can help” that brings out the best in people, because they have been there, and they do understand, and they do want to help. I don’t think there’s a more supportive group out there than those who have been through cancer, or a more wonderful group than Christians who have been through cancer, because they bring the added blessing of prayer to the mix.

Not everything everyone said will apply to me. I’m learning that, even within the breast, where the cancer is situated makes all the difference between a simple surgery and recovery and a difficult one. Mine isn’t located near any bones or the pectoral muscle, so I’ll be one of the fortunate ones who can go through this fairly easily.

Which is another illustration of God’s mercy and grace, another example of what it means to have “the little c.” The more I read of my friends’ experiences, the more I realized how blessed I am.

And I’m honored, humbled, elated to discover I have so many friends who care for me, evident by all the notes and cards and posts. I tell ya, God is so good!

It is during the difficult times we find God’s mercy, through earthly messengers. So very glad to hear of all the prayers and support, Linda. It warms your soul, doesn’t it?

Yes, it does. I believe people go through rough times to help others when those rough times hit them. No one can say “I know how you feel” like someone who’s been there.
