Ack! I’m Late!

It’s not that I don’t know what day it is. Really, how can anyone not know it’s Monday? I just totally didn’t connect Monday with post day. Oops. Part of the reason is that I’m scrambling to get the edits done on The Cat Lady’s Secret before I leave town tomorrow.

I’m not sure I understand myself when it comes to writing. One morning last month, I wrote “the end” on my first draft about two hours before I had to leave for Mom’s at 9. I sent the manuscript to my critique partner, packed, and ran, arriving at Mom’s just in time to take her to her first doctor’s appointment.

Katie (my critter) got the manuscript back to me fairly quickly, and I’ve had a couple of weeks to work on it. But “work” isn’t really the word I’d use for what I’ve done with those weeks. Fret, complain, and threaten to delete the entire thing, all better describe what’s been going on around here.

Then, late Saturday afternoon, it dawned on me how to fix the two major problems Katie pointed out. Finally. I worked deep into the night (which sounds more wicked than it was. Since I usually get up between three-thirty and four, working “deep into the night” means seven) and resumed around four Sunday morning. I don’t usually work on Sundays, but since MSB had to work, I decided I would, too–and conquered one of the problems.

So today, instead of writing my post for Peppermint Place, I went to work at four a.m. on the other problem. I’m in a time crunch. My manuscript was supposed to be in another critter’s hands early last week, but I waited until two days before I’m supposed to be at Mom’s to go into full work mode.

I feel like the kid who decides to do her term paper the night before it’s due.

What’s with that? I had two consecutive weeks to figure this out, but my brain doesn’t want to cooperate until the last possible moment. Seriously. Does anyone else have that problem?

And while I’m asking questions, let me throw this one out: Does anyone else have trouble typing “the”? Every time I type The Cat Lady’s Secret, I have to go back and fix it. Teh and hte seem natural to my fingers if not my brain, and even when I do get the word right, I have to go back and capitalize the T. What’s with that?

Anyway, yeah, I’m late writing my blog post. Blame it on teh Cat Lady.

LOL Is Katie a two-footed or four-footed critter? Sorry. It tickled me! I’ve had post day sneak up on me, too, and forgotten to post! And yes, hte problem exists on this end, too!

  2. Better late than never. Think of all those wannabe writers who never get started on to the first draft. Congrats! On to the next revision.

I mistype “the” ALL the time. SO NO – it’s NOT you. Praying you’re done revising. Have a FABULOUS time with mom.

  4. It is heartening to hear even the pros struggle with different things. Kind of a, misery loves company, thing. You inspire me, always, Linda. Thank you!
