Joseph Finder’s Odd Dog

If you’ve looked at my sidebar recently, you know I’ve got Joe Finder’s latest “Nick Heller” thriller on my bedstand. This book releases June 21, but I’m one of the lucky few who won a pre-release copy on Goodreads. My first Finder book was Company Man, a novel I not only enjoyed reading, but also learned from, so you can imagine how excited I was to win this one.

Joe does his research. In Buried Secrets, he went above and beyond when it came to prepping for this novel (something I’ll discuss in interview with him on AuthorCulture June 22), but he also did some of the little piddlin’ stuff to provide some novelty–like a dog he mentions only once (at least so far–I’m not through with the book yet).

Get this: He wanted a homely dog, so he cruised the net and found a crossbred Shar-Pei/English Mastiff. Just so you can get an idea~~~

This:

English Mastiff

Plus This:

Chinese Shar-Pei

Equals That:

Oh, my!!!

BTW: I’m still holding the giveaway for Karen Witemeyer’s To Win Her Heart. I didn’t get a chance to push it as much as I should have last week, so if you missed it, you can still enter to win. I’ll hold the drawing this Friday.

Also, the Bull-Buckin’ Giveaway for Give the Lady a Ride is still going. Although I’m pretty easy about this giveaway, try to follow the instructions in the post. Drawing for my “masterpiece” is June 3!

  1. Cool, Linda! I’ll have to check him out. Always looking for a good read. As Abraham Lincoln said: (paraphrasing) My best friend is someone who gives me a book I haven’t read.

Since there are so many more books on the market these days, Lincoln would have lots and lots of new best friends!

Actually, I think the cross is better looking than the Shar-Pei!

I was expecting it to have more of the Shar-Pei’s wrinkles–maybe this mix just didn’t mix quite right.

I hope it has a better personality than the Shar-Pei. But then, I’ve only experienced two, which you couldn’t have given me for a couple of million dollars.
